Seaford District to Host Program on Common Core
Presentation to come as state education commissioner comes to Long Island.
The Seaford school district is hosting a presentation on the common Core Learning Standards Wednesday night.
The program, hosted by Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Personnel, Mr. John Striffoli, will focus on the instructional shifts in the English Language Arts and math curriculum as well as materials being utilized for English and math.
It will be at Seaford High School at 7 p.m.
The presentation will not address testing and the principal teacher evaluation system, according to the school district website.
Both of those issues have been a source of controversy, with several school boards on Long Island and throughout the state passing resolutions asking eduction officials to rethink the reliance on testing.
It will also be a hot issue in Mineola as well Wednesday night, where Mineola High School will host a Common Core forum.
New York State Education Commissioner John King will lead the forum and discuss the much-debated Common Core, testing, teacher evaluations, and student privacy.
