“Ms. Coons showed me how much I could thrive at school. I loved every day of her class and was upset if I was sick and couldn’t go,” she recalled.

DeGennaro’s love for learning, combined with her strong sense of perseverance, has enabled her to graduate with a 111.01 weighted grade-point average. Academically, she is an Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar and a member of National Honor Society. Among her many extracurricular activities, DeGennaro played field hockey; was a member of the band, Model Congress, Key Club and Freshman Buddies, a mentoring club; and was president of the environmentally conscious Green Club, which she initiated at the high school. DeGennaro offered these words of advice to fellow students: “There will be good days and there will be bad days, but the key is to never give up and to surround yourself with loved ones. Work hard, stay organized and dedicate yourself 100 percent.”
