Seaford HS Junior Selected as Newsday's Project Prom Girl

Danielle Trotta was picked out of 2,000 contestants for a once in a lifetime prom experience.

Seaford High School softball standout Danielle Trotta was selected amongst 2,000 contestants for the shopping spree of a lifetime with Newsday's Project Prom.

After losing her father in middle school and being displaced from her home in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, the last few years have certainly not been easy on Trotta, but her mother Kathy said her positive spirit is an inspiration.

"In the past five years, Danielle has been through a lot," Kathy Trotta explained. "She lost her father five years ago and then our home was affected by Sandy last year. We're back in the house now, but we lost our whole backyard, basement and first floor. It was difficult, but we've all managed, and Dani - she's always smiling."

Project Prom offers one lucky girl a shopping spree with Newsday fashion experts and a professional photo shoot showcasing four beautiful gowns for readers to vote on. Trotta, who will be busy attending three proms in the next month, was nominated by her mother as a surprise.

"I was so happy my mom nominated me," said the 17-year old Trotta. "When I found out I was chosen, it was the best feeling ever. I definitely think i deserved this opportunity and I am so glad it happened to me."

While nine hours of shopping was a blast for Trotta, the high school junior said she is walking away from the experience with a much more meaningful lesson as well.

"Being chosen changed my life for the best," she added. "It shows that no matter what happens in your life, always believe in yourself, because something good will happen."
