Seaford HS Holds First Annual College Awareness Day

Local high school spotlights post-grad opportunities during event aimed at promoting college planning process.

held its first annual College Awareness Day earlier this month. 

Throughout the day, high school seniors and staff wore their college sweatshirts with names such as Cornell, Columbia and Binghamton, emblazoned across the front. The gesture sparked curiosity and conversations about college planning among the student body.

“This was a way of fostering connections with teachers and students, facilitating
conversations and building moral,” explained Frank Stazzone, Seaford High School's director of guidance. “We wanted to congratulate our seniors on their college choices and inspire underclassmen to explore post-graduate possibilities. It also gave teachers an opportunity to share their college experiences and offer advice.”

The Class of 2012 celebrated their acceptances to Cornell University, University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Chicago, Carnegie Mellon University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Boston University, Boston College and New York University, among many others.

“We hope to mark this exciting time in our students’ lives by hosting this event
every year,” Stazzone said. “It was a great success.”
