Seaford HS Students Visit National 9/11 Memorial

The entire junior class was able to attend the new museum at former World Trade Center site thanks to donation from the 9/11 Seaford High School Memorial Committee.

The Seaford High School junior class had an opportunity last week to view the new National September 11 Memorial & Museum in an experience designed to bring to light the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks more than a decade ago.

The Seaford students’ visit to the museum, which is located in lower Manhattan where the World Trade Center stood before the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks brought the twin towers down, was paid for by the 9/11 Seaford High School Memorial Committee. The organization was formed in a tribute to five Seaford High School graduates killed in the acts of terror including Thomas Haskell,  Timothy Haskell, John Perry, Robert Sliwak and Michael Wittenstein. Since its founding 11 years ago, the Seaford High School 9/11 Committee has awarded over $117,000 in scholarships students whose character and achievements reflect the lives and spirit of the five Seaford High School whose lives were cut short on that fateful day.

The 11th annual  9/11 Seaford High School Memorial Committee Patriot Award dinner is scheduled for June 24 at the Woodbury Country Club starting at 7 p.m. Honorary Patriot awards will be presented to Kenneth Jacobsen (Seaford Chamber of Commerce president), John Theissen (founder of the John Theissen Children’s Foundation), and Carla Powell, who will be accepting on behalf of her late husband William, a 1964 Seaford High School graduate who was active member of the community.
