Seaford Resident Caught in Traffic, But Takes Homecoming King Crown

Tommy Marigliano was given his crown when he arrived at Plainedge High School a little bit tardy.

And the homecoming king for Plainedge High School is...Tommy Marigliano!

The crowd went crazy celebrating the Seaford resident's accomplishment, but he was nowhere to be seen. Instead, he was sitting in traffic on Southern State Parkway as he headed home from a hockey tournament.

Instead, Marigliano found out from friends via text message while he was in the car.

“I was in traffic on the Southern State Parkway and all my friends were calling me to tell me,” Marigliano, 17, told Newsday. “It was upsetting that I wasn’t there.”

He arrived in the third quarter and took his crown next to queen Erica Carney. Despite the delay, he said it was still special.

“It [homecoming] is something I’ve always been a part of for four years of high school,” Marigliano added. “ Even though I was a little late it’s always something I look forward to.”
