UPDATE: Seaford, Wantagh Schools Close Ahead of Hurricane Sandy

Districts announce that schools will be closed Monday due to expected inclement weather.

Due to a forecast of Hurricane Sandy wreaking havoc on Long Island, the Seaford and Wantagh school districts announced Sunday afternoon that its schools will be closed on Monday.

Acting Superintendent Maureen Goldberg said in a message posted on the district's website that Hurricane Sandy may also cause schools to be closed on Tuesday as well and asked parents to prepare.

"Due to the severe weather predicted as a result of Hurricane Sandy, all Wantagh Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday October 29 and all after school activities have been cancelled as well," Goldberg's message stated. "Given the severity of the storm it is quite possible that we will be closed on Tuesday. I therefore urge you to make arrangements for child care in case schools are closed on Tuesday.

A message on the Seadord School District's website reads, "We urge everyone to take every precaution necessary to maintain safety during the storm."

The neighboring Levittown School District has also announced that schools will be closed Monday because of expected inclement weather from Sandy.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
