Seaford Teen Aides Special Needs School in Eagle Scout Project

Raul McGee helps build new therapy desks and chairs for The Association for Children with Down Syndrome in Plainview.

Raul McGee of Seaford recently attained his Eagle Scout Award by aiding a school for special needs students in Plainview.

McGee was recognized for the achievement during his Eagle Court of Honor held at St. William the Abbot Parish Hall in Seaford where he received citations from Hempstead Town Clerk Mark Bonilla and Nassau County Legis Dave Denenberg, D-Merrick. McGee’s brothers Bryan and Kevin also achieved their Eagle Scou designation.

McGee’s Eagle Scout project involved building new therapy desks and chairs for in Plainview. He had previously volunteered many times at the school.

The Seaford teen accomplished the project with the help of fellow Boy Scouts in Troop 690, who helped get more than $1,500 in donations from parishioners at . McGee’s good friend, Mike Considine of Wantagh, also aided the construction of desks for the project. The furniture was presented to the school’s principal Cecilia Barry, in addition, to a check in the amount of $1,166 to be used to purchase audio therapy equipment.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
