Seaford to Host College Soccer Match Sunday

Briarcliffe College to play men's soccer home game against Monroe Community College at Seaford High School.

The local community will get to see some college soccer action Sunday afternoon  when Briarcliffe College plays a home match at against Monroe Community College (MCC).

Seaford Superintendent of Schools Brian Conboy said Briarcliffe approached the district about utilizing its synthetic surface field for Sunday’s men’s soccer match against MCC when it learned its regular home field in Hicksville would not be available. Conboy said the district is receiving $500 from Briarcliffe for a two-hour use of Seaford’s field starting with Sunday’s 2 p.m. kickoff against MCC.

Briarcliffe men’s soccer competes in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). Briarcliffe captured a USCAA men's soccer national title in 2008.

Conboy said Briarcliffe has also utilized Seaford High School for basketball home games in recent years. Seaford Board of Education president Brian Fagan said he would like to see the district seek out opportunities for hosting local collegiate teams like Briarcliffe as often as possible as a way to create additional revenue.
