Seaford Woman Holding Online Avon Fundraiser for Tutaj Family

Debbie Mirer organizes fundraising drive for family of fallen Seaford High School student.

A Seaford woman is doing her part to help a local family who lost their teenage son last month.

Debbie Mirer is holding an online Avon fundraiser for the family of Joseph Tutaj, a 15-year old who died suddenly on Feb. 19 while on a Seaford High School band trip to Disney Land. Tutaj's father, Robert, is battling stage 4 cancer and the family has been living temporarily in Bethpage since being displaced from their Seaford Harbor home by Superstorm Sandy.

Mirer is a family friend of the Tutajs whose son Christopher was on the same bowling team with Joseph in the Wantagh Lanes PAL. Mirer said the fundraiser is scheduled to last until the end of March but will be extended if the family wishes it to. All proceeds will go to the Tutaj family.

Anyone wishing to donate should log onto www.youravon.com/dmirer and type in josephtutaj15 under online events at checkout.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.
