Timeline of Wantagh Superintendent Changes From Past Year

Maureen Goldberg is fifth person to occupy district's superintendent chair in past year.

With Phil D’Angelo’s sudden leave as Wantagh Superintendent of Schools less than three months into the job, there have now been five people in the last year serving in the district’s leadership post.

Replacing D’Angelo as acting superintendent is longtime Forest Lake Elementary School Principal Maureen Goldberg. Two of Wantagh’s superintendents from the past year, Dr. Richard Marsh and Carl Bonuso, were serving in an interim capacity.

Copied below is a timeline of Wantagh’s many superintendent changes from the last year.

  • Sept. 26, 2011- Lydia Begley exits Wantagh after two years as superintendent and 12 years in the district for a newly created administrative post at Nassau BOCES and is replaced in an interim role by retired Bethpage Superintendent Dr. Richard Marsh.
  • Feb. 29, 2012- Dr. Marsh resigns his position as Wantagh’s interim superintendent four months early due to personal health reasons. Former longtime Wantagh Superintendent Carl Bonuso takes over for Marsh to fill the interim role until June 30.
  • May 3, 2012- The Wantagh Board of Education votes unanimously to hire Phil D'Angelo as Wantagh’s new Superintendent of Schools at a salary of $227,000 starting on July 1.
  • Sept. 19, 2012- The Wantagh Board of Education announces that it has approved the leave of D’Angelo from the superintendent position. Longtime Forest Lake Elementary School Principal Maureen Goldberg is tapped to serve as acting superintendent.
