Two MacArthur Students from Wantagh Honored for Academic Achievements

Junior Melissa Feinberg was selected as a finalist for a NASA competition; senior Melissa Slyper won an award at the Long Island Youth Summit.

Two  students from Wantagh recently received honors that illustrate their extensive academic and intellectual abilities.

NASA has selected Melissa Feinberg, a junior at MacArthur High School in Levittown, as a Women in STEM High School Aerospace Scholars finalist.

As a finalist, Feinberg will take online courses and tests that will prepare her to be part of a NASA-based mission. If selected as a winner, Feinberg will have the chance to spend a week at Johnson Space Center in Texas this summer.

Meanwhile, senior Melissa Slyper received another award for her research paper at the Long Island Youth Summit last week.

Slyper's project, titled “An Analysis of Social Networking Among Adolescents: Gender Differences, Sexting, and Narcissism,” was awarded a prize for "Best Research Project" at the summit. She was one of seven MacArthur students to attend the summit, according to the school district's website. At the summit, the brightest and most active high school students worked with experts to find innovative solutions to socio-economic and socio-medical issues affecting Long Island.
