Two Seaford HS students Win Advanced Placement Art Awards

Krysta Parisi and Melissa Wolfson honored at island-wide exhibit.

Seaford High School seniors Krysta Parisi and Melissa Wolfson were honored with Awards of Excellence for their artistic talent by the Art League of Long Island.

The recognition was presented at the closing reception of the League’s Fifth Annual “GO APE” Exhibition at the Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery in Dix Hills. The exhibit, which ran from Jan. 14- 20, showcased the work of 120 Advanced Placement art students from 31 school districts across Long Island. The annual event highlights a broad spectrum of visual arts, such as drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, photography and computer graphics.

Awards of Excellence were given to four students in each of the following categories: Drawing Portfolio, 2D Design Portfolio, and 3D Design Portfolio. Parisi's self-portrait, done in colored pencil, and Wolfson's black-and-white portrait of her brother both won awards in the Drawing Portfolio category.

Congratulations ! These very talented young artists should have their works displayed throughout the district and throughout the community on a rotating basis in the local banks - the library , even some of the dining establishments and perhaps some of the local businesses- Perhaps the Chamber of Commerce, the SD and the Art Dept. could work together to insure that our many talented students have the opportunity to have their work showcased , encouraged and appreciated locally. Again congratulations!

Congratulations to both Krysta and Melissa. This AP Art Class was on the chopping block last year at budget time. I appreciate the district listening to the parents and teachers and keeping such a unique class in our district. There are so many talented students at Seaford High School that have worked hard to get to this point. I feel very fortunate to have such wonderful opportunities available during difficult financial times. Thank you Seaford Administrators and School Board!

Congratulations to both artists...your work is incredible! Please continue to be inspired! As Kerry and Lorraine rightly point out the community would greatly benefit from a display of your work in a venue that affords it full viewing and this type of program is incredibly important and should continue. Again great work...
