VIDEO: Seaford Holds 9/11 Memorial Service

Hundreds turn out to Seaford High School 9/11 Memorial Sunday evening to commemorate 10-year anniversary of terrorist attacks.

Seaford High School held its 10th annual 9/11 memorial tribute Sunday evening in front of a memorial teaching plaza dedicated the five Seaford graduates who were lost in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The five Seaford High School alums lost on that fateful day a decade ago honored at Sunday’s service include Thomas T. Haskell'82, Timothy S. Haskell'85, John William Perry'82, Robert Francis Sliwak'77 and Michael Robert Wittenstein'85. Brothers Thomas and Timothy Haskell were New York City firefighters, Perry was an officer with the New York City Police Department and Sliwak and Wittenstein both worked at financial services firm Cantor-Fitzgerald near the top of the World Trade Center's North Tower.

The service was attended by many elected officials including Rep. Peter King, R-Seaford, and U.S Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY. There were also musical performances by the Seaford High School marching band and chorus as well as the Nassau County Police Pipe Band.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
