Wantagh Acting Superintendent Updates District About School Conditions

Maureen Goldberg gives message to community about when schools may reopen following damage from Superstorm Sandy.

The following is a message Wantagh Acting Suprintendent Maureen Goldberg sent to district parents Friday updating when schools may reopen.

- This is Maureen Goldberg with an update on our schools. Our administrative team met today to consider all variables in determining if we will be able to open schools on Monday. Safe transportation for students and staff and the restoration of power to our schools remain our utmost concern.

The team will be meeting again on Sunday afternoon as it is our hope that the additional information needed to make a decision will be available by then. You can expect a communication from me later on Sunday as this decision is made.

As always be safe and I will be in touch.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
