Wantagh Brings Back Keith Sachs as Varsity Baseball Head Coach

Sachs re-appointed to his longtime coaching position nearly a year after he was not brought back as Wantagh's varsity football head coach.

Longtime  varsity baseball head coach Keith Sachs was re-appointed to the position last week nearly a year after he was removed from his football coaching duties.

The Wantagh Board of Education approved the appointment of Sachs as baseball head coach at its Feb. 8 meeting when spring coaching positions were voted on. Last year, the school board opted Sachs for a 20th year as head coach of Wantagh’s varsity football program causing many in the community . 

Sachs could not be reached for comment on the school board’s decision to bring him back as Wantagh’s baseball head coach, a position he has held since 1994. Sachs helped lead Wantagh baseball to a Long Island title in 2010 and state championship in 1998. He was a standout baseball player at Merrick's Calhoun High School and Hofstra University.

Wantagh resident Kevin M’Aulifee, whose son plays baseball, spoke out in support of bringing back Sachs to the diamond at the school board’s Jan. 11 meeting.

“Keith Sachs is heck of a good guy,” said M’Aulifee. “He is a great coach.”
