Wantagh Eighth Graders Move Up to High School

Crossing over ceremony held for graduating middle school students.,

eighth-grade class participated in the district's annual "Crossing Over" ceremony on June 9 in the auditorium.

Assistant Principal Anthony Ciuffo introduced four student guest speakers - SamaraKalmus, Michelle Izzo, Brandon Blumstein, and Kyle Sliwak - each of whom reflectedon their unique, special memories from time spent at the middle school over the pastthree years. Ciuffo then conducted the "Crossing Over” ceremony in which studentswalked from the left of the room to the right, symbolizing their crossing from the middleschool to the high school level.

Moving-up certificates were distributed by Wantagh Middle School Principal Dawn Matrochano, Wantagh High School Principal Carolyn Breivogel, high school Assistant Principal James E. Brown, Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carl Bonuso, Assistant Superintendent for Business Dana DiCapua, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Maureen Appiarius and members of the Wantagh school board.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
