students and their families recently came together for a night of reading fun.

Sponsored by the Wantagh PTA, Primetime Reading Night kicked off March’s Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) program. Students will earn reading incentives from local merchants, including , , , and , for participating in the program by reading each week. This year’s PARP theme is “The Big Beautiful Earth.”

Physical education teacher David Sposito kicked off Primetime Reading with a game of “Hot Spot Basketball.”  Afterward participants gathered their beanbag chairs, sleeping bags, pillows and blankets to create comfortable reading spots in the gymnasium.

Teacher Amy Sue McPartlan and her National Art Honor Society students created and presented their screenplay “Carlton,” based on a reading selection from the high school’s award-winning literary magazine, Escapades. Following the performance, the Wantagh High School students introduced themselves and spoke of their personal experiences with reading and involvement in extra-curricular activities.

Wantagh Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carl Bonuso, and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Maureen Appiarius participaed in the initiative as well, bringing their personal reading choices for the silent reading time. The evening was rounded out with crafts, gym time and an ice cream party.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
