Wantagh Elementary School Students Honored in Moving Up Ceremony

Fifth graders recognized for making transition to middle school.

honored its fifth-grade students with an annual moving-upceremony on June 21.

The ceremony marked the students commencement of elementary school and progression to middle school next September. As part of the ceremony, nine fifth-grade students performed musical solos and duets. Additionally, the entire class sang “Forever Young” and “Make it Shine” in unison, led by teacher Angelo Annunziata. Fifth-grade teachers Diana DeLauro, Karen Easter, ElisaFerrara, John Hobbes, Kathryn Lux-McKeefrey, Amanda Mooney, Gail Murphy, and Traci Weiss then announced the names of their students to recognize their transition from elementary school to middle school. 

Dr. Donald Sternberg, principal of Wantagh Elementary School, discussed the concept of a timeline during his address, referencing the moving up ceremony as a mid-point inthe students’ public school careers and wishing the future Class of 2019 all the best in their futures.

“Parents, pass on your knowledge, your understanding, your compassion, and your loveto your children,” Dr. Sternberg advised. “Everything, everything is in front of you. Be wise enough to heed the advice of your parents and your teachers, and we want you toenjoy your journey."
