Wantagh-Elmont Football Game to Resume Today

Second half of Thursday's lightning-shortened road tilt to kick off at 3:30 p.m. with Warriors trailing 6-0.

The remainder of Thursday afternoon's lightning-shortened Wantagh football game at Elmont will be resumed today starting at 3:30 p.m.

Thursday's game was halted as both teams were prepared to kick off the second half when lightning began to strike the Elmont area a little before 5:30 p.m. Elmont was leading at halftime 6-0 courtesy of Jaquan Smith returning the opening kickoff 88-yards for a touchdown.

The Wantagh-Elmont game needed to be played early today since no high school sporting events in Nassau County can be played during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, which lasts from sundown Friday to sunset Saturday. The Warriors entered the Elmont game 1-0 after defeating Long Beach in its open last Saturday 35-7.
