is aiming to win grant money for its theater program through a contest set up by The Clorox Company.
The online contest is aimed at funding programs that help children to play, create and explore and provides a grand prize of $50,000 along with two $25,000 grants.
The grant submission was written by Wantagh student Samantha Rothermel with help from Heather Romano, theater program director and teacher. The grant submission says that Wantagh High School is provided $400 a year to put on a show that costs around $2,000 before costumes, props and sets. Rothermel said they are also hoping to raise funds for increased educational trips.
“We start out every year worried about how to get the first show off the ground,” said Romano in her grant submission. “This grant would allow us to focus on creating art and educating future audience members and artists, rather than on surviving.
The online voting contest began on Oct. 24 and lasts until Dec. 9. To vote for Wantagh High School’s submission, click here. Votes for Wantagh can also be cast by texting clorox8585 to 44144
