Wantagh HS Announces Class of 2012 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Kristyn Flynn and Alexander Wedel have excelled academically and in extracurricular activities.

has announced Kristyn Flynn as the Class of 2012 valedictorian and Alexander Wedel as salutatorian. 

In making the announcement, school officials said, "both of these academically outstanding students have driven themselves to excellence over the last 13 years and are fine examples of the well-rounded individuals who graduate from the Wantagh SchoolDistrict." 

Flynn has earned many awards during her tenure at Wantagh High School. This year alone she was named an AP Scholar with Honor, received the Dartmouth BookAward, and is serving as a member of the National Honor Society and Foreign Language Honor Society. Flynn has completed a total of eight Advanced Placement courses, earning herself college credit on every test she has taken so far.

Flynn is president of the Spanish Club, a cadet/ambassador with the Girl Scouts and a member of theschool’s Key Club and Science Olympiad. Excelling in sports in addition to academics,Flynn served as captain of the varsity tennis team, for which she earned the designation of Most Valuable Player and is a member of the school’s badminton team,for which she was named All-Conference last year.

Flynn plans to attend Stony Brook University in the fall and major in biology/pre-med.

Wedel has also made significant contributions to the Wantagh High School community. He was captain of the varsity wrestling team and earned All-County honors as a senior year while leading the Warriors to a . Academically, Wedel was named an AP Scholar, received the Harvard Book Award and is serving as a member of the National Honor Society, National Foreign Language Honor Society, Key Club and the Science Olympiad. He was also chosen to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in 2010 and serves as a volunteer coach with the Wantagh Youth Program.

Wedel plans to attend Cornell University in the fall and major in biology.
