Wantagh HS Theater Students Volunteer at Nursing Home

Wantagh students spread holiday cheer during visit to Cold Spring Hills Nursing Home.

The Theatre Department, under the direction of Heather Romano, recently visited residents of the Cold Spring Hills Nursing Home to provide some holiday cheer.

While this was a voluntary activity for those involved in the theatre arts program, the school had more student volunteers participate than were anticipated. Each of those visited at the nursing home had one or two Wantagh buddies to help brighten their holidays.

Armed with gifts and good cheer, the students were models of patience, kindness and generosity. Students sat with residents, holding conversations with their newfound friends and enjoying an intergenerational get-together.

So rewarding was the event that many of the students inquired if they could return, and vowed to keep their new friend's birthday in mind.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.
