WANTAGH MIDDLE SCHOOL B.E.S.T. CLUB SHOWS OFF THE BEST IN OUR COMMUNITY

Wantagh Middle School B.E.S.T Club students raised an astounding $700.25 for the Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged thanks to the kindness of Wantagh residents who gave willingly during their Saturday food-shopping outing! B.E.S.T. stands for Business and Education Serving Together and the club is a community service extracurricular activity that includes Wantagh Middle School students in grades six through eight. The money collected will send 3 disabled athletes to compete in the Victory Challenge that is scheduled to occur May 30 - June 1, 2013 at the Mitchel Athletic Complex and Nassau Community College. In its 29th year, the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged brings together athletes from across New York to compete in a weekend-long sporting event. Athletes compete in Track and Field, slalom, archery, swimming, wheelchair basketball and table tennis. These events offer physically challenged children who are between the ages of five and 21 years old opportunities to participate in sports and recreational activities that are adapted to best suit their unique abilities. The participants consist of some 1,200 young athletes who are physically disabled, visually impaired, or blind, hearing impaired or deaf, and those with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries or Les Autres, which include arthritis and muscular dystrophy. B.E.S.T. Club Supervisors Debra Nimmo and Antoinette Bruno would like to thank the Wantagh community for their generosity and support!
