Wantagh Middle School Principal Resigning

Dr. Timothy Piciullo to be replaced by middle school's assistant principal Dawn Matrochano effective July 1.

Principal Dr. Timothy Piciullo has decided to resign his position after one year on the job and will be replaced by the school’s assistant principal.

Wantagh Superintendent Dr. Lydia Begley sent a letter to middle school parents on June 7 announcing Dr. Piciullo’s resignation at the end of the month. Begley announced in the letter that Piciullo will be replaced by Wantagh Middle School Assistant Principal Dawn Matrochano effective July 1.

“Ms. Matrochano's experience as the assistant principal at Wantagh Middle School, Social Studies department chairperson in Commack, and former elementary assistant principal at , combined with her knowledge of our district, students, parents and staff, make her a natural and excellent selection for this leadership position,” said Dr. Begley in the letter.

The Wantagh Board of Education will be accepting Dr. Piciullo’s resignation at its June 16 meeting, said Begley. District officials did not provide a reason why Piciullo decided to resign.

Prior to arriving in Wantagh last year, Piciullo had served as an assistant principal for Hauppauge High School, dean of students for Bellport High School, and a business and technology teacher for the Islip and Patchogue-Medford Middle Schools.

“We thank Dr. Piciullo for his service this year to our district and we wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Begley.
