Wantagh MS Students Form Business Ideas for Class

Panel of judges reviews business plans formed by young entrepreneurs.

Students in Nancy O’Connor’s eighth-grade Business Management class at recently participated in a unique activity.

As part of a “shark tank” simulation, students formed their own businesses and presented them to a panel of seven judges, among whom were an entrepreneur, a realty advisor, a bank manager, and a librarian. The students were responsible for the creation of the company name, a logo and slogan, a mission statement, business cards, price lists, a grand-opening flyer, a public relations event and a one-minute radio commercial for their grand opening.

A platinum award was given to Ruth Kupperberg for her cupcake business proposal. Sara Sneddon received a gold award for her custom t-shirt business idea. Kaitlyn Cerasi, Alexa Cohen, and Kelli Schmidt received a silver award for their frozen yogurt business plan.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
