Wantagh School Board Trustee Will Not Seek Reelection

Jean Quinn announces that she will not run for a third term this spring.

Wantagh Board of Education Trustee Jean Quinn has decided not to seek reelection this spring.

Quinn, who has served as a Wantagh school board member for the past six years, announced Friday her decision to not run for a third term. She is currently school board vice president and also held the president post during the 2010/11 school year.

“My decision to ‘retire from the board’ certainly wasn't easy,” said Quinn, a Wantagh High School graduate. “But rest assured I will never retire from advocating for our community, our schools and our children!"

Prior to first being elected to the school board in 2007, Quinn worked as a special education teacher aide at Wantagh High School.

”My decision to resign from the district and run for the board afforded me an opportunity to be a ‘voice’ for all of the children,” said Quinn in reflecting on her time served as a trustee.

In addition to Quinn, William Russack’s seat is also up for reelection on May 21. School board candidates have until April 22 to file necessary paperwork with the district clerk.

Quinn said she would be happy if another woman took over her seat.
