Wantagh Students To See Building Improvements When Returning to School

District undergoes renovations and repair work in all five of its schools in preparation for 2012/13 year.

The Wantagh School District's maintenance/custodial/buildings & grounds staff has been busy at work this summer preparing for the return of our students and staff.  

Besides annual cleaning, waxing, and painting of classrooms and other school areas, other projects have included:

  • Installation of new flooring
  • Replacement of window shades
  • Installation of new interior & exterior doors
  • Installation of a new door lock system at
  • Renovation of the Instructional Media Center
  • Installation of new wiring
  • Electric panel upgrades 
  • Asphalt replacement in the middle & high school parking areas
  • Ceiling tile replacement in the rear hallway of
  • Installation of ductless air-conditioning units

Other projects that will be occurring throughout the 2012-2013 school year in Wantagh buildings include:

  • Bathroom renovations in Wantagh Elementary School
  • Boiler conversions in and Mandalay
  • Wantagh Middle School gym floor and bleacher replacement
  • brickwork/repointing

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
