Morning of the Debate

Shannan Ferry reports at the presidential debate.

The day is finally here!  The second presidential debate at Hofstra University is tonight and I am so excited to be reporting on the sidelines of this historical event. I have been preparing for this event for nearly 10 months now, starting in the primary season of the election.

I produced all coverage for WRHU for the New Hampshire Primary, as well as our coverage for Super Tuesday. I was also sent by WRHU-FM to the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida to report.

Therefore, I feel like I have a sense for what goes on at a major political event like this.  For the debate, I have been working with Debate TV. Debate TV is a channel run by the Multimedia Video Department here at Hofstra, and I have been working with them since June.

I have been covering all events leading up to the presidential debate around our campus. That includes covering lectures by renowned political speakers such as Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Scholar and Historian Douglas Brinkely, Erskine Bowles, and Alan K. Simpson.

You can watch all of these videos at:

On Monday, I reported at the debate site and around campus. My favorite story yesterday was about Hofstra students who actually got to sit in as President Barack Obama, Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley in order to help directors "shot-block."

Shot-blocking helps the networks prepare for an event like this by testing the lighting and camera angles the day before a broadcast airs. I thought this was such an incredible opportunity for Hofstra students, and felt so honored to report on it.

You can take a look at that story right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9iWjjnyxfU&feature=youtu.be

Today, I will be reporting around campus and the debate site as well, covering any story that comes my way for Debate TV.

At 19 years old I feel extremely lucky to be reporting at a presidential debate.  I am ready for this incredible opportunity, and cannot wait to represent Hofstra University, and show everyone what I can do!

As a Hofstra alum and former WRHU member I have been incredibly impressed by the coverage you and the other reporters have done for Debate TV and the radio station. Keep up the great work! - Andrew Coen Wantagh-Seaford Patch Editor

I am reading this on the Mineola Patch. The article is dated Oct 16. Why did it just appear on the Mineola Patch today and not the 16th,17th or 18th?

It was featured on the morning of the debate. It appeared on our site then.

Geoffrey: Thanks. I must have missed it. Must have been too early for me.
