Annual Seaford Wellness Council Hot Chocolate Run/Walk Set for Dec. 1

Net-proceeds from this year's race will go toward relief efforts for Superstorm Sandy victims in Seaford.

The Seaford Wellness Council will be conducting its ninth Annual 5K Hot Chocolate Run/Walk on Dec. 1 with this year's event taking on a special meaning in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

The net proceeds from the event go towards funding projects which benefit the Seaford community throughout the year. For this year's race, half of the net- proceeds raised will go towards relief for Superstorm Sandy victims in Seaford. In addition to the funds raised from the event, the Seaford Wellness Council will have a donation bin set up who those who would like to drop in cash, checks or gift cards for storm relief efforts.

The 5K Hot Chocolate Run/Walk has grown in popularity since first launching in 2004 with . The race starts and ends at Seaford High School and consists of a flat, four right turn course, which is popular with both serious and casual runners. 

On-line applications for the race are available through the Seaford Wellness Council’s website utilizing the Hot Chocolate Run link. Applications will also be accepted in the Seaford High School Auditorium the night before and the morning of the run/walk, which is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. 

This year’s race honorary co-starters are Ken Jacobsen, president of the Seaford Chamber of Commerce and chief financial advisor at Seaford’s LPL Financial and Tom Cleary, scoutmaster of Seaford Boy Scout Troop 239.
Each entrant receives a custom designed long sleeve tee-shirt, bagels, coffee, tea and hot chocolate with bottled water and orange wedges also provided. There will also be male and female awards for different age groups, raffle prizes and musical entertainment from Seaford High School Jazz Band.
