Hofstra Women's Lacrosse Freshman from Wantagh Wins CAA Rookie of the Week Honors

April Iannetta garners conference recognition after posting four points in games against Drexel and Maryland.

Hofstra women's lacrosse freshman midfielder and graduate April Iannetta garnered Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week honors Monday after two solid performances against Drexel and Maryland. 

Iannetta totaled four points during Hofstra's two games, which included a 15-9 CAA opening win at Drexel on Thursday and 11-4 loss to third-ranked Maryland three days later. Against Drexel, Iannetta had a goal and an assist as well two caused turnovers and a ground ball. In the Maryland game, Iannetta tallied a goal and an assist, along with a ground ball and draw control. 

So far in her freshman season with the Pride, Iannetta has eight points on four goals and four assists, while also adding four caused turnovers, two ground balls and one draw control. The Wantagh native ranks second on the team in scoring this season and second in caused turnovers.

Iannetta arrived at Hofstra after a standout girls lacrosse career at Wantagh where she earned All-Nassau County honors as a senior in 2011. She led the Lady Warriors to the Nassau County finals in 2009 and 2010.

Iannetta will will next be in action this Saturday when Hofstra hosts Rutgers at noon.
