Hofstra Wrestler from Wantagh Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Championships

Steve Bonanno finishes eighth at 125 pounds in the 2012 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships this past weekend.

Four years after capturing a state wrestling title with , Hofstra’s Steve Bonanno has established himself as one of the top grapplers on the collegiate level.

Bonanno finished eighth at 125 pounds in the 2012 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships this past weekend to earn All-America honors. The red-shirt junior clinched All-America status with a 10-4 overtime victory over Pittsburgh's Anthony Zanetta in the fourth round of the consolations during the championship event held at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

Bonanno finished the season 31-9. He a Colonial Athletic Association  title on March 3.

Bonanno was recognized as a Hofstra Student-Athlete of the Month on March 18 for his accomplishments in wrestling and in academics. The 2008 Wantagh High School graduate is scheduled to earn both an undergraduate and master’s degree in accounting when he graduates.
