Local Athletes, Marching Band Members to Be Shown on MSG Varsity

Network to air key playoff games and marching band performances for Wantagh and Seaford high schools.

Athletes and marching band members from Wantagh and Seaford high schools will be showcased on MSG Varsity this week.

Both Wantagh and Seaford’s semifinal football games at Hofstra this past Saturday will be broadcasted by the network, which is channel 14 on Optimum TV, on Wednesday. Wantagh’s dramatic 14-13 overtime win against MacArthur will be shown at 7:30 p.m. while Seaford’s heartbreaking 21-17 loss to Valley Stream North will air at 4 p.m.

Wantagh’s Nassau County Conference II title tilt with rival Garden City this Sunday at noon will be aired on tape delay later in the day at 7:30 p.m.

The Seaford girls volleyball team will also be seen on television screens this week with its Long Island Class B title match against John Glenn airing on Thanksgiving Day at 5 p.m. The Vikings lost a hard-fought battle to Glenn in three sets two days after capturing a second straight Nassau County Conference B championship.

Thanksgiving Day will also feature an airing of the Wantagh and Seaford marching bands performing at last month’s annual Newsday Marching Band Festival at Hofstra. Wantagh and Seaford will be featured in the MSG Varsity Thanksgiving Day special The Marching Bands, airing from 2-5 p.m. Wantagh’s performance is scheduled to be shown between 2-3 p.m. with Seaford’s airing during the 4-5 p.m. time slot.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.

A tantalizing, mind-teasing story about a faceless team with no names who won honorable mention forRead More some project about which we learned absolutely nothing from this article. Journalism 101: Who what, why when and where?
