Local High School Playoff Games Re-Scheduled After Superstorm Sandy

Wantagh and Seaford teams get set for playoff games this week after cancellations last week due to historic storm.

High school playoff games for Wantagh and Seaford athletic teams that were postponed by Superstorm Sandy last week have been re-scheduled.

The Wantagh girls soccer Class A quarterfinal game at top-seeded South Side, which was previously scheduled for Nov. 1, will now be played on Thursday at Skelos Field in Rockville Centre. Eighth-seeded Wantagh (12-1-1) is coming off a 2-0 overtime win against Jericho on Oct. 27 in the first round of the Class A playoffs.

Superstorm Sandy also impacted the postseason schedule for the Wantagh and Seaford volleyball teams. The Wantagh girls volleyball team (13-1) earned the top seed in the Class A playoffs and will begin its quest for a fourth straight Nassau County title with a home quarterfinal match on Friday night against the winner of Thursday’s first round tilt between Bethpage and Hewlett.  The 12th-seeded Wantagh boys volleyball team (11-3) is scheduled to face Jericho in a first round road match on Thursday at 4:45 p.m.

The Seaford girls volleyball team, the defending Class B county champions, opens its 2012 playoff run with a semifinal match Saturday against the winner of Friday’s quarterfinal battle between Clarke and North Shore. The top-seeded Lady Vikings finished the regular season with an unblemished 12-0 mark.

The Wantagh and Seaford football teams had opening home playoff games postponed from this past weekend due to Superstorm Sandy. As of Wednesday, no makeup date for the games had been announced. Top-seeded Seaford (8-0) is scheduled to face Mineola and third-seeded Wantagh will be squaring off against Mepham.
