Local Runners Pay Tribute to Boston Marathon Bombing Victims

Four-mile BostonStrong LI run held at Massapequa Preserve Monday evening.

More than 30 runners from around Long Island gathered at Massapequa Preserve Monday evening for a special run in tribute to the many victims of last week’s terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon that left three people dead and dozens more with serious injuries.

The event called BostonStrong LI was part of a global movement by Pavement Runner to hold runs in several areas around the U.S. to commemorate the one week anniversary of the bombings near the finish line of the 117th Boston Marathon. The four-mile run along Massapequa Preserve, which began next to Sunrise Highway, was organized by Syosset resident Constance Korol.

“It was truly humbling and amazing to see a group of 30 plus Long Islanders come out in support of Boston on such short notice,” said Korol, who began Monday’s run with a 26.2 second moment of silence as a symbol of the Boston Marathon distance. “I am so proud to be a part of such a special community. Thanks to Pavement Runner for starting the Boston Strong tribute run movement. The feedback and the thank yous coming in for me organizing BostonStrongLI is overwhelming.”
