Long Island Casting Call for Lacrosse Movie

Producers looking for local talent to stock film set to hit theaters in 2012.

The feature lacrosse film “Crooked Arrows” will be holding auditions for lacrosse athletes in Hempstead and other tri-state area locations Friday-Sunday, June 10-12.

Reebok will be sponsoring the event, which drew over 400 players last weekend at the Final Four in Baltimore.

Crooked Arrows is a story about a young Native American man rediscovering his purpose in life by coaching a rag-tag reservation lacrosse team to the local prep championship. Backed by an all-star team of movie folk, who boast 50 feature films to their credit, it looks to be the next big hit of the sports movie world.

The producers will be casting primarily male athletes 18 and over for principal roles, but will also be seriously considering exceptional 14-17 year olds of both sexes. Athletes under 14 are participating in a skills clinic and will be considered for casting in cameo roles and as extras.

Producers J. Todd Harris and Mitchell Peck will be looking for lacrosse players and actors to be featured in the movie being shot this summer in the Boston area. They announced the signing of Superman Returns star Brandon Routh to play the film’s leading role. It’s set for a nationwide theatrical release during the spring of 2012 at the peak of lacrosse season.

The lacrosse drills will be run by Sports Studio’s Coach Mark Ellis. Ellis is best known for casting the athletes and choreographing the action in Miracle, Invincible, The Longest Yard, and Game Plan, among other sports movies classics.

“We were thrilled by the turnout in Baltimore,” Harris said. “We saw a lot of great lacrosse players, but had to trim the call-back list to the best 24. It was no small task. We’re expecting equally strong showings in the Tri-State area, and next month in Boston. Every region takes great pride in its lacrosse talent. And there are a lot of people who think that this area produces the best lacrosse players in the world. ”

The film has received support from many major lacrosse organizations, including U.S. Lacrosse, the NLL, the MLL, Metrolacrosse and the Tewaaraton Committee.
