LSW Sports League Gearing Up for Spring Season

Levittown Seaford Wantagh Sports is set to kick off mid-April.

Since 1954, the Levittown Seaford Wantagh (LSW) Sports League has provided an athletic outlet based around teamwork and community.

LSW Sports League is now preparing for their annual spring season where hundreds of local children can participate in intramural kickball, t-ball, baseball and softball on both intramural and travel teams.

"We offer an opportunity for kids to get together and learn how to play team sports," said league administrator Don Boyce. "Only a certain about of these kids will go into the travel part of our league and excel at these sports but our intramurals are for everyone."

The intramural divisions at LSW are available for children ages 3-17. Up until age seven, the teams are grouped by family request. As they get older, the teams are picked by a draft.

"We group the younger teams on request so friends and family can be together at a young age and the groups can choose the coach themselves," Boyce explained.

Though an exact date has not been confirmed, Boyce told Patch the league's annual spring parade, which kicks off the season, will take place the third week of April.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.

True, true, I'm sure there's a political payoff/payback here somewhere.
