PHOTOS: Seaford Football Honors Viking Veterans

Former Seaford football players who served their country during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were recognized prior to 2011 opening game against Cold Spring Harbor.

Just prior to the Seaford football opener against Cold Spring Harbor this past Friday evening, former Viking players who have served their country during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were recognized in a pregame ceremony.

The nine servicemen who once played on the Seaford gridiron were introduced and then took part in the pregame coin toss at the 50-yard line. The former Viking gridders all received commemorative coins from their Seaford football family of players and coaches. All honorees, players and coaches wore custom camouflage tee shirts for the special occasion.

The former Seaford players who were honored included Sean Farell, Marko Kostovic, Geoff Ledour, Joe Piro, Jeff Baker, Chris Haneo, Bill Stellwagen, Matt Gale and Tom Skretch. The honorees in attendance were greeted by Rep. Peter King, R-Seaford, and Nassau County Legis. Dennis Dunne, R-Levittown.

Seaford went on to the game 25-7.

The Vikings are next in action this Saturday for the program’s annual Homecoming game against West Hempstead kicking off at 5 p.m. The game will be honor of the and their many volunteers. All honorees, players and coaches will be wearing red and white tee shirts in honor of the fire department.
