Seaford Baseball One Win from County Semifinals

Vikings take game one of best-of-three Nassau County Class A semifinal series against Garden City.

The Seaford baseball team is now one win away from its first county semifinal appearance in five years.

The Vikings defeated Garden City in come-from-behind fashion Wednesday afternoon, 8-6, to take game one of its best-of-three Nassau County Class A Quarterfinal series. Wednesday’s road victory gives Seaford an opportunity to clinch a spot in next week’s semifinals with a victory in game two of the series at home on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Vikings last reached the semifinals in 2008.

Seaford trailed Garden City 6-4 entering the sixth inning before rallying with four runs. Senior Steve Schaeffner capped the four inning with a two-out, two-run triple. Junior pitcher Danny Colantonio threw 2-1/3 no-hit innings in relief with three strikeouts to pick up the victory.
