Seaford Baseball Season on Brink After Game One Semifinal Loss

Vikings drop game one of best-of-three series to Plainedge, 4-0.

A magical 2013 Seaford baseball season is now on the brink.

After winning four playoff games in a row to reach the county semifinals for the first time in five years, Seaford (15-8-1) dropped game one of its best-of-three series at home against 13th-seeded Plainedge Monday, 4-0. The ninth-seeded Vikings now must win game two of the Nassau County Class A semifinals in nearby North Massapequa Tuesday to keep their season alive.

Despite Monday’s loss in which Seaford was held to four hits by Plainedge starting pitcher Justin Tigo, Viking head coach Mike Milano is expecting his team to come out confident in Tuesday’s must-win game. Prior to Seaford’s quarterfinal sweep of Garden City capped off Friday, the Vikings won two elimination games against New Hyde Park and Division.

“If we win a game [Tuesday] the series turns and we come back home on Thursday,” Milano said. “We’re excited about the opportunity to come back here Thursday.”

Just 1.64 miles from each other separate Seaford and Plainedge’s home fields. The neighborhood schools last met on the diamond in the 2011 Class A quarterfinals with Plainedge coming out on top in a series sweep.

Game two Tuesday between Seaford and Plainedge in North Massapequa is scheduled to get underway at 4:30 p.m. If the Vikings win and force a deciding game three, it would be scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Seaford Middle School.
