Seaford Boys Lacrosse Lighting Up the Scoreboard

High-powered offense has keyed 11-1 start for the Vikings.

The Seaford boys lacrosse team is lighting up the scoreboard in 2013.

Seaford head coach Mike Corcoran has urged his players to play a more uptempo style and the strategy has resulted in the Vikings being one of the most explosive offenses on Long Island. Through Seaford's first 12 games, the Vikings are averaging 13 goals a game and are off to a 11-1 start with just three games remaining before the Nassau County Class C playoffs commence.

The Vikings high-powered offense has featured several contributors led by Matt Murphy's team-leading 33 goals. Seaford has also been bolstered by the return of Danny Speicher, who missed the last four games of 2012 with a collarbone injury, and has contributed 32 goals and 60 points in 2013. The Vikings also have four other players who have registered double digit goals including Kyle Kolodinsky (19) James Curley (17), Nick Silvestri (15) and Jimmy Ragland (12).

"We spread the ball around," said Coach Corcoran of his team's diverse amount of offensive threats.

A key in getting Seaford's offense extra possessions has been faceoff speciliat Ryan Gligantic, who has won about 75 percent of his draws, according to Corcoran

Seaford has also been getting steady play from his defense, which is anchored by Pete Adorno and Tyler Copious. The Vikings also have three capable starting goalies in Andrew Sappia, Nick Kirincic and Ryan Gibbons.

Seaford's only loss of the season came on April 3 in a hard-fought 12-7 setback to neighborhood rival Wantagh, who is one of the top teams in Class B. The Vikings hot streak will be tested later this week at Class C power Friends Academy (8-1) Wednesday and at home versus defending county champion Cold Spring Harbor (8-1) Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Corcoran said the key for Seaford to make a deep playoff run will be cutting down on turnovers and winning the groundball battle.

"We stress playing as a team and always helping each other out," he said. "Different guys are stepping up in different games."
