Seaford Boys Lacrosse Looks to Grow in 2012

Vikings have their hearts set on a spot in Nassau County Class C Championship.

After losing 18 seniors, the boys lacrosse team is looking to rebuild with a new squad.

According to head coach Mike Corcoran, the Vikings are only working with two of last year's starters, so molding together will be tough. Last year's senior-laden Viking team reached the Nassau County Class C semifinals before to Friends Academy.

"The biggest improvement needed for our team is experience which can only come in games," said Corcoran, who has coached Seaford boys lacrosse for the past five years.

Senior Joe Richards at midfielder and junior Tyler Copious on defense will continue to lead the team as they did in 2011 and Corcoran believes several newcomers will be key to the Vikings' success.

"We are counting on a few seniors to step up for us, like Anthony Silvestri, Pat McGraph, Jesse Palmer and Glen Kennedy," he said. "We also have some key young players like our sophomores Kyle Kolodinski, James Curly, Nick Silvestri and Andrew Sappia in our goal."

The Vikings fell short of a shot at the county championship last year after a  to Friends Academy in the Class C Semifinals. Though it will be challenging, Corcoran is confident that slow and steady improvement will bring his team back to the top.

"My goal now for this season is to show improvement every week and compete for the championship at the end of the year," Corcoran said. "I think we have alot of talent on the team and will get better with each game [to] finish strong."

Seaford opened its 2012 schedule with a 10-6 non-league loss to Lynbrook. Seaford opens its Conference IV schedule on Friday against Island Trees starting at 4:45 p.m.
