Seaford Boys Lacrosse Rolls Over Clarke, 15-5

Vikings blow game open in second quarter with seven straight goals.

Saturday’s boys lacrosse game between Seaford and Clarke was a close one until midway through the second quarter when with the scored tied 3-3 the Vikings erupted for seven straight goals in route to a 15-5 victory.

Saturday’s win at moved the Vikings to 5-3 in Class C and 10-3 overall. Clarke is now 1-6 in the league and 5-8 overall.

"We stayed with them for a little while," said Clarke head coach, Tim O'Malley. "But they went on that run late in the first half and we weren't able to get back into it."

Part of the reason for the Vikings success was attackman Anthony Marino who led all scorers with five goals in the game.

"Our strong defense helped us in our offensive transition," said Marino. "We got up on them and we never looked back. It was a good team effort all around."

The Rams started off the game well tying the score at 1-1 early in the first quarter and than coming back to tie the game after being down 3-1.

Goalie Austin Peraza made some nice stick saves as Seaford was beginning to put pressure on the Clarke defense late in the second.

However, the Rams could not hold the Vikings off for long. The constant barrage on goal took its toll as the Vikings rattled off seven straight shots to end the half.

Seaford scored again to start the second half before Clarke's Peter Rodriguez and Shane Lauria scored back to back goals to cut the deficit to 11-5.

Lauria was the leading scorer for Clarke with three goals. Rodriguez and Mike Martiello also had goals.

"They (Clarke) gave us a tight game in the first quarter," said Seaford coach, Mike Corcoran. "But we were able to get our offensive transition going late in the second."

Another major reason Seaford posted Saturday’s victory was its dominance on faceoffs.

"Our faceoffs were also a strong point," said Corcoran. "Justin Buckley and Dan Arena did really well today."

Seaford closes its regular season schedule at home against Island Trees on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.  Clarke concludes its regular season schedule on Monday at longtime Class C power Cold Spring Harbor at 7 p.m.
