Seaford Boys Soccer Falls to West Hempstead

Woodie Cheu and Carmine Fuschetto notched the game's only goals.

It's been a tough start for the Seaford Boys Soccer team.

After losing 2-0 in the season opener to Cold Spring Harbor, the same fate struck Seaford with a 2-0 loss at West Hempstead Wednesday.

Woodie Cheu and Carmine Fuschetto notched goals for West Hempstead, who controlled ball possession for much of the game.

When asked what Seaford could improve, Coach Ralph Pascarella said "everything."

"We just have to work harder, make better decisions, score some goals, defend better," he said. "We need to improve on a little bit of everything. We’ll be alright. We’re better than that."

"We’ve been in every game," West Hempstead Coach Chris Van Kovics said. "From day one we talk about a blueprint. Every game we’ve played in so far, we’ve done the things we’ve needed to do."

After the teams traded scoring chances early, West Hempstead took control, and a lot of battles took place in the Seaford end. Cheu was able to capitalize on the pressure.

"I just saw a big gap between the players, and I was able to one-time it in," Cheu said, talking about the game's first goal. "It feels great to open the game up and get my friends’ heads up."

Early in the second half, the Rams added some insurance, as a nice pass set up Carmine Fuschetto to send a high arcing shot over the Seaford keeper.

"It was a deflection out of the box," he said. "It was a good thrown in from the defender. I got content on the board and it went over the keeper’s head."

Bobby Smith notched a shutout with eight saves for West Hempstead.

Seaford's next game is Friday at 4:45 p.m. at W.T. Clarke High School. West Hempstead takes on Roosevelt on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
