Seaford Football "Storms" Past Locust Valley

Vikings win 41-14 in game delayed by lightning.

Thursday night's scheduled 7 p.m. Seaford-Locust Valley football game was moved up to a 4:30 p.m. start because of anticipated severe thunderstorms in the area, and the Vikings offense proved to be just as explosive in a 41-14 win.

"They came out smoking," said Seaford football head coach Rob Perpall of his team's offensive performance. "We have a lot of team speed."

Seaford (2-0) led 28-0 with 9:51 left in the quarter when the game was stopped after the projected thunderstorms hit the area, with play resuming nearly two hours later. A major reason the Vikings built themselves such a big lead before the delay was the play of senior running back Justin Buckley, who rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. In last week's season-opening win over Island Trees, Buckley ran for 199 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries.

"He is just dominating," said Perpall of Buckley. "He can do everything."

Also stepping up out of the backfield for Seaford's offense was running back John Troisi, who rushed for 41 yards and one touchdown, and Ryan Metas, who ran for 83 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries. Senior wide receiver Dan Arena also contributed to the offensive explosion with three catches for 62 yards and a touchdown while also converting five-of six extra points in his role as the team's place kicker. Quarterback Joe Kirinic was 4-6 passing for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Coach Perpall decided to give his players the next three days off to have time to heal before preparing for next Saturday's game at East Rockaway. The Vikings first road game of the season kicks off at East Rockaway on Sept. 25 starting at 1:30 p.m.
