Seaford Girls Volleyball Finishes Regular Season With Senior Day Win
Lady Vikings defeat Floral Park in five games.
The Seaford girls volleyball team (9-5) won its final game of the regular season on Thursday in five sets over second place Floral Park (10-2) on senior day. Set scores were 25-19, 17-25, 16-25, 25-20 and 25-15.
The Hero- Seaford senior captain Jennifer Sullivan recorded seven kills 13 digs and eight aces to cap off her final regular season game. Meaghan Curley was also key with 16 assists, six kills and nine digs. Juliana Puleo contributed eight kills and 10 digs for the Vikings.
Turning Point- Towards the end of game four, Floral Park was on a hot streak. They won the previous two games and were threatening to end it with a third win. Seaford had their backs against the wall, but thanks to team unity and a will to win, the Vikings began a comeback. Trailing 9-2, the Vikings slowly worked their way back into the game. The Vikings eventually caught up to Floral Park and were tied 16-16. With the game on the line, the Vikings dug deep and won a hard fought nine points and won the game 25-20 to even match up at 2-2. The Vikings ran over Floral Park in the last game and won by a margin of 10 points.
Quote- Seaford girls volleyball head coach Marie Savage said, "The girls have been working on holding rallies. Sometimes they lose their momentum, but our last five matches have gone five sets. I wanted the girls to become more tenacious, and I can honestly say that they never give up. My younger players are becoming stronger by the minute, and my seniors are leading the way."
Bottom Line- With Thursday's win over second place Floral Park Seaford finished the 2010 regular season 9-5 and places the Vikings at fourth place in Conference BC-1 while Floral Park finished in second. As of early Friday afternoon the playoff schedule for Conference BC-1 had not been announced.
