Video: Jones Beach Hosts Annual Free Volleyball Tournament

Long Islanders hit the sand for fun and competition at this past weekend's beach volleyball event.

held it's 33rd Annual volleyball tournament this past weekend with 24 teams enlisted.

"[The Players] love it," said Long Island State Park Director of Administration, AnnMarie Agostinello, "It's a fun day at the beach. They come down and get to play at least six or seven games."

The team names seemed to be almost as competitive as the play ranging from the "Blue Barracudas" to "The Backsetters."

"'Gayle Force' like a gale force storm," said participant Dan Rogers explaining their name, "and also because of Gayle who is a force on our team."

Participants came from various parts of Long Island to make a run at the cash prize awarded to the first and second place teams.

"I've been playing for 13 years now," said Hills Elite's Kaela Glenn, "but towards the end of the day the top teams come out and it starts to get tough."

The four-player tournament Saturday and lasted until the final game at 3 p.m. Sunday when "Hills Elite" swept "Bubbles" in the first two sets.
