Wantagh Baseball Too Much for Seaford in Annual Neighborhood Clash

Warriors remain undefeated after defeating Seaford, 12-2 under the lights Friday night at Farmingdale State.

The Wantagh and Seaford baseball teams continued a decade-long tradition this past Friday when the neighborood squads faced off against each other under the lights at Farmingdale State in a non-league matchup. Wantagh (12-0) showed why they are undefeated so far in 2012 by posting a convincing 12-2 win over their rivals to the east.

Seaford head coach Mike Milano said his young Viking team is still molding together on the field and simply could not compete with the Warriors.

"They're an undefeated team who knows how to win a game," said Milano of Wantagh. "They know how to hit with guys on base and they know how to throw strikes. We're still learning how to win with a new team."

Wantagh kicked off the first inning with four runs and continued to power through to defeat Seaford, 12-2. Ryan Cacchioli, Nick Mullen and Adam Aponte each had two hits and three RBIs for the Warriors.

"Our pitcher didn't have as much control as we would have liked," Milano explained of his team, now 6-6. "We started off playing with a big deficit so it was a tough comeback to make."

"We always try our best, but we were up against a better team and they beat us," he added. "That's baseball, though. You could play the same team over and over - sometimes you beat them and sometimes you get beat up."

Following the non-conference defeat against Wantagh, Seaford dropped two in a row on Monday and Tuesday to Conference A-IV power Clarke, who last year the Vikings in the playoffs. Seaford concludes its three-game series against Clarke at home Thursday starting at 4:45 p.m.

Wantagh easily won its first two games against Conference A-I opponent Jericho on Monday and Tuesday by 15-7 and 13-6 scores. The Warriors conclude their three-game set with the Jayhawks at Jericho Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
