Wantagh 10/11 Year Old Football Team Wins Championship

Wantagh Gold Football team caps off undefeated season with 7-6 victory over Rosedale Jets on Nov. 27.

The Wantagh Gold Football team won the Tier 1 Pony Division Championship in the Nassau -Suffolk Football League on Nov. 27.

The 10 and 11 year old gridders from Wantagh topped off an undefeated season by defeating a previously unbeaten Rosedale Jets team, 7-6. The Warriors lone touchdown came from Gavin Casey. Tommy Rohan also picked up several key yards on the ground for Wantagh during the title game.

Wantagh's starting quarterback during the title run and for the last seven years was Chris Hogan.


Wantagh's strong offensive line was anchored by center Liam McDermott, with big blocks all season by Danny Graham, Gavin Guerrera, Sam Cioffi, Don Schaumloffel and Dylan Findlay. Wide receiver Finn Duignan was a game changer all season with many touchdown receptions. Running backs Casey, Rohan, Chris Murad and Matt Ryall ran hard all season during Wantagh's championship run.

Wantagh's defense this season was it's strongest with big tackles by linebackers Chris Murad, Casey, James McCarron, Don Shaumloffel, Dylan Scott, Patrick Brown, Don Conway, Jake Gelada and Matt Romano. Other key player on defense included defensive backs Jack Conklin, Rohan Jason Corso, Ryan Tariche, Andrew Hughes, Owen Anderson and linemen Billy Bonasera, Robby Walker, Sam Sloves, Gavin Guerrera, Sam Cioffi, Vincenzo Larosa Rob Griffo and Joe Moritz.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
