Wantagh Football Players Earn Awards

Four Warriors honored at Nassau County Football Awards Dinner.

Four Wantagh High School football players received honors at the Nassau County Football Awards Dinner held Sunday.

The Wantagh players recognized included senior quarterback Gerard Roche (All-County), junior running back Peter Brasile (All-County and All-Conference II Defensive MVP), junior lineman Nick English (All-County) and senior running back/defensive back Brandon Watson (All-County and Conference II Offensive MVP. The awards dinner was held at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.

Wantagh finished the 2012 season at 8-3 and an appearance in the Nassau County Class II title game where the Warriors suffered a heartbreaking 21-17 loss to Garden City. Wantagh (8-3) advanced to the county finals the week before with a thrilling 14-13 overtime win in the semifinals against neighborhood rival MacArthur.

$20 million of the $40 million will be spent on adding a pocket track, presumably east ofRead More Massapequa. Currently, trains are reversed east of the Wantagh interlocking, and while the engineer walks through the train, it blocks the track. This addition of a "pocket track" will probably also help Wantagh commuters some times, just as an emergency pull-over space on the LIE helps.
